About HMM
HMM Co., Ltd., formerly known as Hyundai Merchant Marine, is South Korea’s largest shipping and logistics company, founded in 1976 and headquartered in Seoul. As of 2025, HMM operates a fleet of 84 container ships with a capacity of 920,000 TEUs, ranking as the eighth-largest global carrier.
The company is on track to expand its fleet to 1.2 million TEUs by 2026 and aims to reach 1.5 million TEUs by 2030 through a $16 billion investment plan that includes LNG-powered vessels and methanol dual-fuel ships. In March 2025, HMM joined the newly formed Premier Alliance alongside Ocean Network Express (ONE) and Yang Ming after Hapag-Lloyd’s departure from THE Alliance.
The company also announced service expansions across Asia-Europe and Trans-Pacific routes to strengthen its network. Additionally, HMM is growing its dry bulk operations, planning to increase its fleet from 36 ships to 110 by 2030. With a focus on sustainability and operational efficiency, HMM continues to solidify its position in the global shipping industry amidst fierce competition.
